Tinnitus is really just a symptom of an underlying condition and sometimes the health problem which is causes someone to perceive certain sounds can involve ear pain. Ear infections are a fairly common cause of tinnitus and they often cause ear pain for those who get them. Although most people with ear infections only experience temporary ringing in the ears, there are some who inexplicably develop tinnitus that does not go away when the infection does.
There are many reasons which a person could experience ear pain, including ear infections, excessive buildup of wax in the ear canal, and a sinus infection. All of these issues can lead to tinnitus for one reason or another, which is why this symptom is commonly associated with tinnitus. Ear pain itself does not cause tinnitus but is rather a sign that something else is wrong, many times involving parts of the inner ear.
Those who experience ear pain as well as tinnitus should undergo a thorough examination by a trained physician in order to determine what the underlying problem is. Often times when the root cause of the ear pain is taken care of, the sounds which the person perceives will begin to go away. While this is not always the case, many people only experience tinnitus for a short period of time as a passing symptom of something else entirely.
An excessive buildup of wax in the ear can lead to an infection which can cause some pain and discomfort. By first getting the wax suctioned out by an ENT or ear nose and throat doctor, it will be possible to eliminate the infection and as a result the tinnitus. There are different methods of removing wax from the ear canal and sometimes if it is not done correctly it can actually worsen a person’s tinnitus.
